Is there anything that Joseph Gordon-Levitt can’t do? Let’s face it, the former child actor star of 3rd Rock From The Sun has carved his own path, working on indie films such as (500) Days of Summer and main stream fair – he played Cobra Commander, of all things! Plus he was super cool in Christopher Nolan’s Inception, so much so that Nolan found a part for him in the upcoming The Dark Knight Rises (but I don’t know what it is yet, do you?).
Along with acting, Gordon-Levitt is also the founder and director of the company hitRECord, an opened ended domain for artist to collaborate with one another. There have been upwards of 10,000 contributions to the site since its inception (see what I did there), 67 of which have been collected into The Tiny Book of Tiny Stories Volume 1. And believe, there is truth in advertising, as this is a tiny book, perfect as a stocking stuffer. Being the big music nerd that I am, and the even bigger nerd when it comes to heavy metal/hard rock music one of my favourite books is hands down Motley Crue’s The Dirt. For a while when I was playing in a band, it was more of a bible/guide book than just a good read.
My favorite book has to be Phillip K Dick’s “The Divine Invasion”. It’s one you can read over and over.
‘Neverwhere’, by Neil Gaiman; or possibly ‘Good Omens’, by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. Also of note, both books are Harper Collins. 🙂
Bitten by Kelley Armstrong…because it mostly takes place in a nearby city to mine, and the author is a great Canadian writer & story-teller!
There are way too many books in the world! Right now, it’s American Gods by Neil Gaiman. I try and hand-sell it at my store every chance I get.
My favorite book is Invisible Monsters by Chuck Palahniuk. It’s dark, twisted, and humorous.
The Toothpaste Genie by SANDY FRANCES DUNCAN – A childhood book I absolutely loved because I wanted to so badly believe in wishes!
I’ll always have a soft spot for the “Family Circus” comic books that my dad had laying around when I was a kid. I’ve always loved reading (and read more than comics now!), but I had a true affinity for the character, Dolly. She was my favourite. Like a twin sister.
Favourite book by far is Angela’s Ashes. I’m a sucker for biographies.
One of my favorite books is “Fahrenheit 451” by Ray Bradbury. It was really interesting to me how in the book’s world, books were illegal. Knowledge and ideas were seen as if it was like a sin. They kind of see it as an easier way to live and to avoid conflicts with one another. Their society depends on television for “happiness” or “entertainment.” It reminds me of how in today’s world, reading an actual book has been on a decline. In a literature course i took recently, with a class of a hundred people, the professor asked how many people have read a book for fun and that they didn’t have to read it for a class.. Only a quarter of people raised their hands. It was really interesting.
Just one book as a favorite? Like movies, it’s so hard to pick just one. Can I say a series? The Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon is by far my favorite bunch of books. I reread them every year or two because the characters are so endearing. It’s just such a great mix of history, action, love, and fantasy.
If I’m not allowed to say a series and I have to stick to just one title, I guess I’d have to say The Princess Bride by William Goldman. Incredible to read one of my all-time favorite movies as a book and it’s done with such wit I can never put it down.
