Our friend Shannon from The Savvy Reader compiled a solid list of salacious reading for the holiday season that totally fits our Holiday Gift Guide bill. From pop culture personalities to current Hollywood dirt to…well, The Dirt – you’re sure to find something on this list for the pop culture freak in your life. Once you’re done perusing the list, be sure to enter to win a copy of the 10th Anniversary edition of Motley Crue’s classic bio here. Take it away, Shannon!

Sometimes you just need to read something scandalous. Here we’ve picked the top 10 books that go undercover (ahem, pardon the pun) to offer an inside look at those racy topics your parents don’t want you reading about. We’ve got rock stars, celebrity bios, and plenty of sex, drugs, and rock n’ roll…

The Dirt by Motley Crue — If you read any rock biography it should be this one, and if you already have read it be sure to check out the anniversary edition, releasing later this month. This is the no-holding-back memoir by the guys from Motley Crue. It has sex, it has drugs, and it has rock n’ roll so it has to be #1 on our list.

This is a Call: The Life and Times of Dave Grohl by Paul Brannigan — If you love Nirvana and the Foo Fighters you have to check out this new memoir of Dave Grohl’s life. He reflects on Kurt Cobain’s suicide, his rise to fame with the Foo Fighters, and how he feels about music and life in the spotlight. Read an excerpt on our Facebook page.

Dollhouse by Kim, Khloe & Kourtney Kardashian — A fictional story about the scandalous lives of three sisters living a high profile life in L.A.

My Week with Marilyn by Colin Clark — The true story of one film assistant’s week away with the lovely and tragic Marilyn Monroe.

Everyone Loves You When You’re Dead by Neil Strauss — Strauss interviews over 120 of the world’s biggest celebrities in surprising, hilarious, and moving collection. And yes, there’s plenty of sex, drugs and rock n’ roll.

The Last Living Slut by Roxana Shirazi— As you can tell by the title, this is one salacious story about a rock n’ roll groupie.  Here, one young woman tells of her transition from traditionally-raised Iranian to ‘special friend’ for bands like Guns N Roses, Motley Crew, and many others.

Does the Noise in My Head Bother You? by Steven Tyler — A rock memoir from one of the true legends of rock n’ roll, Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler.

God, If You’re Not Up There, I’m F*cked by Darryl Hammond — This is a very real, very raw look inside the life of an American comic genius.  Hammond takes you on a journey backstage atSaturday Night Live, through the streets of Harlem, and inside his own troubled mind.

My Friend Michael by Frank Cascio — Frank Cascio was a close friend of Michael Jackson for more than twenty-five years. Here, Cascio offers a deeply personal, behind-the-scenes look at the Michael Jackson he knew.

Power & Beauty by Tip ‘T.I.’ Harris — Rapper T.I. shows his talents in writing with this fictional story about sex, violence, hustling, and redemption centered around two kids struggling to survive on the streets of Georgia.

There you go! 10 titles that might make you blush, but are totally worth the read. If you’re looking for something scandalous these are the books for you. (And they make great Christmas gifts, although maybe not for your grandmother!)

  1. Nice list, but where’s Hammer of the Gods? Accuracy aside, it sets the bar for these type of books.
