The last time apes ruled the box office, it was 2001 and Tim Burton was reimagining the famed franchise. A sequel never followed; instead, ten years later 20th Century Fox is giving us a prequel in Rise of the Planet of the Apes. This is one movie that’s been under the radar for a lot of folks, myself included. In a summer with Thor, Green Lantern, Captain America and the X-Men, this new Apes movie hasn’t been getting a ton of buzz. However, judging by this trailer, that could be a big mistake. I really love what I’m seeing here – from the feel to seemingly great sfx from WETA, Rise of the Planet of the Apes could be the sleeper blockbuster of the summer.
