RIP Ronnie James Dio: 1942-2010

Less than two weeks after I wrote my pro Ronnie James Dio Article and raved about the Black Sabbath remasters that featured this legendary vocalist (Heaven and Hell, Mob Rules), it truly sucks that I’m writing RIP Dio. The amazing singer had been suffering from stomach cancer for the better part of the last 6 months. I’ve got an idea as to what Dio had to live with, having seen the effects of that particularly brutal form of cancer first hand on a family member years ago, and I’d say that at least the man’s pain and suffering is done and he’s rocking the afterlife now.

I really don’t think I can rave about Dio any better than how I did in my original piece so I’ll simply direct you there if you’re interested in my reasoning as to why Dio was one of the greatest heavy metal singers of all time. Or you can check out the video below, which one Biff Bam Pop contributor referred to as simply awesome.

I came late to the party but I’m glad I got to hear the man live on three occasions, each one better than the last. Rest In Peace, Ronnie James Dio. Thanks for the music, and the devil horns.
