Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs – This animated feature was a hit in the early fall of 2009, and is actually a lot of fun. A solid voice cast includes Bill Hader, Anna Faris, Bruce Campbell, and Neil Patrick Harris. The film is based on the popular children’s book and is about an inventor who creates a device that allows food to fall from the sky. The evil mayor of the city wants to take advantage of this, to bring tourists to the town so he can make a lot of money. Will the mayor get his way, or will the inventor shut down the device before it gets to dangerous? You’ll have to watch to find out. It was shown in 3-D in theatres, but to my knowledge will not have a 3-D version on the DVD release.
The Final Destination – The fourth chapter of the popular teen horror franchise follows a group of teenagers who are trying to avoid very gruesome ways of dying. A teen saves his friends from dying at a race car track, and Death is not very happy about it, so he does his best to kill the survivors. As it was in theatres, the DVD can also be viewed in 3-D.
50 Dead Men Walking – Based on the true story of Martin McGartland, the film follows Martin as he becomes a spy working for the British Police to spy on the I.R.A. Martin works his way up the I.R.A. ranks, and the higher he gets, the more danger he puts his own life in. The film stars Jim Sturgess from Across The Universe, and Sir Ben Kingsley.
10 Things I Hate About You – It’s the 10th anniversary of the film that made Hollywood notice Heath Ledger. This modern take on Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew also stars Julia Stiles and is set in a high school. The plot has been changed slightly as instead of the sisters not being allowed marry until the oldest one is wed, the sisters cannot date unless the oldest one is dating.
TV on DVD
Chuck: The Complete Second Season – The cult TV show follows the adventures of Chuck, a super nerd who is being protected by the government as he accidentally downloaded sensitive government secrets to his brain. It’s an action-comedy, and the loyal fan base of the show is hoping that the new season will catch on, our else it could be its last.
Big Love: The Complete Third Season – The TV show follows the lives of a polygamist family. In season three, Bill, the head of a family, is infatuated with a waitress, while one of the wives has trouble dealing with the polygamist lifestyle. The series has a very strong cast led by Bill Paxton, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Chloe Sevigny, Ginnifer Goodwin, and Amanda Seyfried. Both Chuck and Big Love are about to start up their new seasons on TV.
Until Next Tuesday!
