Figure Friday: Exploring the New LEGO Project Hail Mary Set

It’s Figure Friday, and next week is Friday the 13th, which means Josh has a perfectly themed column dropped right in his lap if he chooses to do so. But that’s next week, this is this week, and you’re stuck with me: A writer who desperately wants to leave the planet.

Buckle up.

LEGO Icons: Project Hail Mary

I’ve been beating the “Social media is DEAD! Blogs are BACK!” drum for a little while now, but I just had to look at another unnamed website to find a source for this section, and my word…what a prolapsed anus of design that website was. I’m sure folks generally aren’t looking at websites on desktop very much anymore, and that everything is optimized for mobile browsers, but that doesn’t mean you can shit the bed on design! Anyways, on to the meat.

This new set was announced today, at the time of writing, and I’ve got to say it caught me completely off guard. LEGO had been dropping mad hints that their Enterprise set was in the works for some months before it actually dropped, but this set came right out of nowhere! Is it too soon to grant it Icon status?

Project Hail Mary is at the top of my dad’s “must-see” list for 2026. When I showed him the trailer, he commented, “May actually have to go to the theatre for that one…” which is the equivalent of 20-year-old me waiting in line for The Phantom Menace tickets. His hype meter is practically off the charts.

Finally. A reason to put Ryan Gosling in your pants.

Adapted from the book of the same name, Project Hail Mary is Andy Weir’s follow-up to The Martian (we don’t talk about Artemis). I’m especially interested since Phil Lord and Chris Miller of Clone High fame are helming the film adaptation. Okay, they were also responsible for 21 Jump Street, 22 Jump Street, Into the Spider-Verse and a cut of Solo: A Star Wars Story that only exists in my dreams.

Here’s the blurb on this set:
