It’s Figure Friday, and as much as I’d like to write about some exciting new action figures… I just had a new bathtub installed.
The prior owners of my house had converted the existing tub into a walk-in shower and spared all the expenses. It was either a DIY gone awry or an off-the-books contractor, but it was most certainly an unmitigated disaster. If I’m not slouching, I stand about 5’10”, and someone thought it was a good idea to install a waterfall shower head that left me with nearly an inch of clearance.
I don’t have a sprawling palatial estate, but I do, on occasion, entertain houseguests. It was time for my disgusting shower to go because I felt it reflected poorly on me as a person. Also, I really, really hated it.
But now I’ve got a nice, new, CLEAN tub and as a person of leisure I’m getting really into soaking. Basically, I’m writing all my columns like this:

The world of novelty rubber duckies is more vast than you could possibly imagine. There’s literally something for everyone, and I fell down a bit of a rabbit hole researching the subject.
Ghost TUBBZ Cardinal Copia Cosplaying Duck (First Edition)

I mean, just look at this! In addition to being a lot of fun as a band, Ghost is a merchandising juggernaut. T-shirts, figures, comics, and now rubber duckies. One day, I’m sure there will be Ghost coffins and Caribbean cruises…but for now, this is enough. It has to be.
TigerSharks ULTIMATES! Mako (Hybrid) Action Figure

Hey, remember TigerSharks? No, well, how about SilverHawks? ThunderCats? TigerSharks were in the mix, too.
Keeping with the water theme of this week’s column, Super7 is going deep in the bench and releasing some TigerSharks figures as part of their ULTIMATES! line. Here’s the blurb:
The 1987 Rankin/Bass Productions animated series, TigerSharks, followed the adventures of heroes that could swim and dive and save the day, transforming from human to aquatic versions of themselves, all thanks to the Fish Tank technology. Mako, the leader of the heroes, is ready to take on evil foes in your collection as a highly articulated 7” scale action figure with premium paint details. Swiftly change up his look with underwater combat accessories that are included. The Mako (Hybrid) ULTIMATES! Figure comes in collector-friendly window box packaging with Super7 artwork inspired by the animated series. Prep a shelf next to your aquarium and swim fast to get your Mako (Hybrid) ULTIMATES! Figure.

I was poking fun above because I’m sure there are a lot of people who remember the TigerSharks cartoon. It’s still incredibly niche, and also pretty astounding that they’re getting collector-focused figures 39 years after they were on TV. TigerSharks didn’t quite hit the way the preceding two cartoons did, and while I do recall seeing it when it initially aired, it was either on at a weird time, or there was something I was more interested in on another channel.
As of this writing, I haven’t bothered to check if there’s a TigerSharks subreddit, but I have to imagine that the fanbase is positively beside itself with the unveiling of these figures. Once again, I have to give it up to Super7 for creating toys that are so amazingly hyper-focused on obscure cartoons from my youth.
Now, I’m off for a soak.
