Figure Friday: Mythic Legions – Highlights from the Fourth Annual Mythic Week

Last week was Four Horsemen Studios fourth annual Mythic Week. The brand’s tentpole event serves as a State of the Union for the Legions community and highlights upcoming releases. This year, The Horsemen went BIG by announcing an in scale dragon and debuting one of the most ambitious waves of Mythic Legions to date, Reign of Beasts! Let’s take a look at what’s available in the latest wave!

BASSYLIA

The winged serpent Bassylia is one of the four Great Beasts of Mythoss. In Legions Lore, the Great Beasts defended ancient Mythoss from the forces of evil, so Bassylia is a pretty big deal. The vibrant colors on the wings and the Aztec vibes in the headdress make this a standout figure and we haven’t even discussed the snakelike lower torso. I love figures that jump out at you from across the room. Bassylia does just that.

From The Horsemen:

This deluxe figure features a completely new body build – including a fully articulated serpentine tail! She comes with the Serpenspire Staff (which was also newly sculpted for this release), a magic effect, and extra sets of hands. Bassylia also features feathered wings and a removable mid-tail piece that allows the snake tail to be displayed flat so the figure can be standing, as well as a second piece to create poses where the tail is fully extended as if she was flying.

SERPENSPIRE ROYAL GUARD

Bassylia’s loyal guards are just as regal as she is. The Aztec aesthetic has carried over to the Royal Guards as well. The detail work in the club and shield compliment the headdress perfectly. I also love the weapon on the end of the tail. It adds another dimension to the storytelling you can tell with the figure.

From The Horsemen:

Like the previously revealed Bassylia, this figure includes a fully articulated serpentine lower body. It is actually the same pieces that Bassylia uses, but with a different “top” piece that allows it to be compatible with 1.0 torsos.

The Serpenspire Royal Guard is a deluxe figure that includes 2 heads (open and closed mouth), removable shoulder armor, extra hands, a magic staff, plus club and shield weapons.

J’HENNAM

This reminds me of my Magic: The Gathering era. A fiery Ifrit that’s been imprisoned in a lamp would fit in nicely in a red mana direct damage deck. Everything about this figure is bad ass. No notes.

From The Horsemen:

This figure includes a brand new head, new armor pieces, a new flaming sword and flame effects, a magic lamp, extra hands, and the massive fiery base as seen here in these images! To maximize display options, we are also including a pair of brute-scale legs to match J’hennam’s red body.

ARRAYA THE TALON BEARER

This is one of those figures I’ll spend hours with in the photo booth. The level of detail in Arraya’s armor is why I love Mythic Legions. It’s truly art. And if you weren’t sold on the beauty of the figure, check out that dragon! The Horsemen are firing on all cylinders with this wave.

From The Horsemen:

This figure includes a number of new parts, including her head, weapon, waist armor, and adornments. Of course, the most obvious “new” item included here is Arraya’s dragon familiar – a figure that is even larger than Arraya herself with fully posable limbs and head and a bendable body!

MWINDAJII THE CACKLER

Who do you think would win in a fight: a Werewolf or a Hyena Man? The Cackler’s hitting all the right notes with me. These would look great customized as the hyenas from The Lion King. I’ll take three, please!

From The Horsemen:

Mwindjaii is a head-to-toe new figure that debuts some exciting new articulation additions that we have been developing for the past few years. This 3.0 body includes new double-jointed elbows and knees, bicep swivels, butterfly joints in the shoulders, and a mid-torso cut! Mwindajii features over 40 points of articulation! He also comes with 2 heads (open and closed mouth), extra hands, and a pair of brand new sword weapons!

THE GOLDEN PRIDE OF LEANDORR

Who doesn’t want an army of lion faced Spartans? The Golden Pride are the warriors that fought alongside Leodysseus in the first Great War. The Horsemen always make fantastic army builders and the Pride is no exception. You’re getting multiple looks on a brand new enhanced body. I can’t wait to see what the customizers do with this one!

From The Horsemen:

This figure is another head-to-toe new build, and it includes double-jointed elbows and knees along with new armored parts, new feet, a new shield weapon, and new heads! The helmeted head can be displayed with either the lion mask or the human face, and a fully unhelmeted head is also included! The Golden Pride of Leandorr figure also includes extra hands, a spear, and a gladius sword with scabbard!

LEODYSSEUS

Leodysseus is the last of the Great Beasts to join the Mythic Legions line. He’s immense in size and personality. I love the inclusion of the faceplates to get multiple expressions. I’d love to see more of this in the future. The Leossyr Hammer was in the line previously, wielded in a smaller scale by Attila Leossyr. In the hands of Leodysseus it’s absolutely massive. Brave Heart Lion never looked better.

From The Horsemen:

This imposing character is an over-sized ogre-scale figure! The parts here are almost all brand new and Leodysseus stands even taller than our previous ogres!

In creating the new parts for Leodysseus, we also added some new articulation points, including butterfly shoulders, bicep swivels, and a mid-torso cut, to allow for some very dynamic posing as this might warrior roars upon entering battle!

Leodysseus stands approx. 10” tall and includes the massive Leossyr hammer (resized for this figure!), removable shoulder armor and bracers, extra sets of hands, premium wired soft goods, and 3 different face plates – stoic, snarling, and roaring expressions.

BEYITHIRR THE GREEN DRAGON

At over three feet long and just shy of two feet tall, Beyithirr the Green Dragon is a sight to behold. They’ll also be offering an add on pack with an extended neck and wings and a flame blast effect. With those additions, Beyithirr is just shy of 6 feet and 28 inches tall. It’s absurd in the best way possible. Beyithirr goes up for preorder in January.
