Dig Deep In the Sands Of ‘Dune: House Corrino #1’ On The Wednesday Run

The month of March – and the March holiday break – has simply roared by!

Many thanks to E.A. Henson, normally he of the Figure Friday column here at Biff Bam Pop!, who covered for me while I was away with the family, soaking up some much needed vitamin D along the beaches of southern Florida. You can catch His Wednesday Run offering right here which includes two must-read comic book offerings.

It’s fitting then, that I was building sandcastles with the kids for nearly two weeks over March break. While those hot grains ran through my fingers, visionary director Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two was making waves at the box office. The highly acclaimed sequel, the second part to Frank Herbert’s namesake novel, has made just over half a billion dollars thus far and captured the imagination of viewers, fans and critics, everywhere.

Over the last few years, Boom! Studios has been releasing original deeper-dive comic book offerings into the Dune world, focusing on the fascinating families and characters that make up Herbert’s sci-fi universe. Thus far, we’ve had the Dune: House Atreides, Dune: House Harkonnen and Dune: Blood of the Sardaukar (which this column covered here) miniseries titles to read and enjoy. All of them have given us a deeper understanding and appreciation of Dune.

Today sees the first issue of their final prequel comic book offering, timed with the recent release of the sequel film in Dune: House Corrino.

Written by Frank Herbert’s son, acclaimed author Brain Herbert along with celebrated author Kevin J. Anderson and illustrated by Simone Ragazzzoni (Power Rangers Universe), Dune: House Corrino turns to the deadly imperial family and the Emperor of the known universe in a prequel to the Dune novel and recent films. This is an 8-part monthly miniseries, once again published by Boom! Studios, just like each of the previously mentioned offerings.

Conflict is escalating on the planet of Arrakis. House Harkonnen is having more and more trouble taming the insurgency of the Fremen peoples. While the Bene Gesserit sisterhood keeps watch over their various machinations – and the fateful pregnancy of Jessica and Leto Atreides’ progeny – House Corrino has devious plans of its own.

The spice must flow!

Dune: House Corrino takes place in the decade before the Dune novel and recent films and sets the stage for everything that will come. Under the sure hands and imagination of Herbert and Anderson and the wonderful visuals of Ragazzoni, familiar faces are given a spotlight in the story, adding to their depth and gravitas. Readers will have a deeper appreciation for the Dune universe and the choices each character must make. This beginning chapter into House Corrino is a thrilling ride into science fiction lore!

Ride the sandworms and make the run to your local comic book shop and pick up the spice that is Dune: House Corrino #1 today!
