There are a lot of comic books released by a multitude of comic book publishers every Wednesday, carefully (or, sometimes, haphazardly) displayed on store shelves, each one vying for your attention and the dollars in your wallet.
Today, only one of those comics has the draw of a beloved character, not seen for some time, written by the hand of an industry legend that helped make that character famous through the 1970’s and 1980’s.
BAMF! your way through the jump towards Nightcrawler #1!
Written by: Chris Claremont

Published by: Marvel Comics
Ah, Nightcrawler! That swashbuckling, heroic demon! That wooer of women! That “BAMF”ing practical joker!
“BAMF”? That’s the sound effect when Nightcrawler (AKA Kurt Wagner) teleports from place to place. You may remember that power from the amazing opening scene of Bryan Singer’s X2 where the character was played brilliantly by actor Alan Cumming.
In comics, Nightcrawler has actually been dead for some time. He missed out on the more major events that have formed the current state of the Marvel Universe. AvX – where the Avengers fought the character’s former teammates in the X-Men? Absent. Infinity – where the heroes of earth fought off all sorts of cosmic forces? Missing in action.
So, the big question for Nightcrawler is: how will he view the world, his teammates and his friends upon his return? There are so many differences. This certainly isn’t the Marvel Universe he left behind years ago and this certainly isn’t the X-Men team that he was once an integral part of. Professor X is dead, for one. Cyclops is on the run for another.
Famed writer Chris Claremont will be helming the new monthly comic book – a fan favourite that wrote Nightcrawler within the pages of the X-Men comic book for, well, forever, really. There aren’t many who know the character better. What a great opportunity this is for Claremont, alongside artist Todd Nauck, to shed new light on an old character!
Make the run to your local comic book store and pick up Nightcrawler #1. Or just “BAMF” to get there faster! Either way, you’ll be loving this series!
Every Wednesday, JP makes the after-work run to his local downtown comic book shop. Comics arrive on Wednesdays you see and JP, fearful that the latest issue will sell out, rushes out to purchase his copy. This regular, weekly column will highlight a particularly interesting release, written in short order, of course, because JP has to get his – before someone else does!
