What You Need to Know Before Luke Cage Season 2 Debuts

Welcome back to Harlem!  It’s a hot time, summer in the city, and the back of our neck is feeling dirty and gritty.  Luke Cage, the hero of Harlem, has been busy since his last appearance, and a new season of Luke Cage hits your home screens tomorrow. Here’s a look back at what happened in Season 1, in case you don’t have time to rebinge.

At the end of the last season, things had kind of leveled out for Luke Cage.  He was acknowledged as the hero of Harlem, and had defeated his half brother Diamondback, but

Misty Knight’s attempts to exonerate Cage had been foiled and he was headed back to prison, while Mariah Dillard walked free for the murder of her cousin, taking over his criminal enterprises with Shades at her side. Misty’s crooked partner Scarfe was dead, and his cases were all in danger of being thrown out.

Luke was a powerhouse in Harlem, vulnerable to Hammer industries Judas bullets but a hero to the people of the city.

Since then he found himself working with the other Netflix heroes to form the Defenders, joining forces with his ex-lover Jessica Jones, Daredevil, and Daniel Rand AKA Iron Fist, as well as Colleen Wing and Misty Knight. Together they fought the Hand as they tried to excavate dragon bones from under New York.

During the clmactic battle, Misty suffered a crippling blow from Colleen Wing’s master Bakuto that cost her her right arm.

As season two of Luke Cage begins, we find Luke still acting as Harlem’s protector while the rest of his cast mates move in their own directions, seeking peace, wealth, and power.
