Cruise Comes Out On Top – Biff Bam Pop’s Weekend Box Office Wrap-Up Report

This weekend was all about whether or not Tom Cruise would be able to get audiences back into theatres after the failure of his last flick, Jack Reacher. Luckily for Cruise, his latest film didn’t fade into…oblivion. Here’s how the weekend turned out:

Oblivion2013PosterThe Joseph Kosinski directed Oblivion managed to open in first place with $38 million. It’s Cruise’s best opening since Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol and proof that if you put him in the right movie, the audiences will come. ASs always with decent openings, the question now becomes, will the film have legs over the coming week. May 3rd sees Iron Man 3 unleashed, so Oblivion should be safe until then.

There were no real surprises with regard to every other film. 42 placed second with $18 million. The Croods were steady in third place with $9 million. Scary Movie 5 was in fourth with $6 million, while G.I. Joe: Retaliation closed things out in fifth place with $5.7 million.

1) Oblivion – $45 million
2) 42 – $20 million
3) The Croods – $10 million
4) G.I. Joe: Retaliation – $5.5 million
5) Scary Movie 5 – $5 million
