Will You See American Sniper This Weekend?

I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty confident that for the third week in a row, one movie will be on the lips of movie goers. Here’s our predictions:

Debuting this week is the science fiction film Project Almanac, which, as my neighbour described it after attending a screening the other night, is about “teenagers time travelling. Oooo.” There hasn’t been any real hype surrounding the movie, and I wouldn’t anticipate a very large debut, especially with what it’s up against. While teens may check this one, I can’t see them coming out in full force. Look for a second place showing with $14 million.

Who knew Bradley Cooper and Clint Eastwood would equal big time dollars. Over $210 million at the box office already. That’s an incredible number for a dramatic film, but American Sniper has touched the hearts and minds of audiences in a way that hasn’t been seen for quite some time. Amazingly, its success shows no signs of slowing down. Look for a first place showing with $43 million.

As for the rest of the top five, it’s not going to be impressive. J-Lo’s The Boy Next Door will be in third place with $9 million. Paddington will grab the fourth spot with $8.5 million. The Wedding Ringer will close things out in fifth place with $7.5 million.

So, to recap, here are our predictions:

1) American Sniper – $43 million
2) Project Almanac – $14 million
3) The Boy Next Door – $9 million
4) Paddington – $8.5 million
5) The Wedding Ringer – $7.5 million

Be sure to check back on Sunday to see how the weekend turns out!
