It was an absolutely huge weekend at the box office, as the two big new releases exceeded expectations and delivered some big bucks. Here’s what went down.
Then again, Annabelle was also a huge attractive for audiences looking for some pre-Halloween scare. The prequel to last year’s The Conjuring grossed an excellent $37 million, again exceeding all expectations and some middling reviews.
As for the rest of the top five, last week’s number one, The Equalizer dropped to third place with $19 million. The Boxtrolls were in fourth place with $12.4 million, while The Maze Runner closed things out in fifth with $12 million. As of Left Behind, it could only muster up $6.5 million to land a distant sixth place.
So, to recap, here were our predictions:
1) Gone Girl – $35 million
2) Annabelle – $25 million
3) The Equalizer – $20 million
4) The Boxtrolls – $10 million
5) The Maze Runner – $9 million
