It’s the summer.
And that means that readers are gearing up for (or are already embroiled within) big summer event comics. Marvel’s got their “Original Sin” mini series happening right now and DC’s struck off on their “Future’s End” title. But publisher Valiant’s got some skin in this game, too – and they’ve been alluding to this particular storyline for the better part of the past year.

Late last year, Valiant, one of the smaller mainstream comic book publishers of superhero stories, began their first team book, Unity. I highlighted the first issue of that series here – and it’s been a highly enjoyable read each month since. Think of it as the publisher’s version of Marvel’s Avengers or DC’s Justice League.
Written by Matt Kindt (Mind MGMT), Unity has been able to get me interested in characters I had no interest in before: Ninjak, Eternal Warrior and even X-O Manowar (whom I always thought had a wacky name). And, in Unity, Valiant has planted the seeds for what we’re about to witness in Armor Hunters.
You can consider X-O Manowar as the Valiant Universe’s Superman: he’s a time-displaced human wearing alien technology that makes him the most powerful individual on planet Earth. The Unity team was constructed to keep him in check, but, like, all heroes, X-O winds up joining with the other good guys.
In Armor Hunters, we learn that there is an otherworldly threat looking to destroy all holders of the alien X-O armor. And they’ve finally honed in on the one man wearing that tech on Earth! Bloodthirsty and unrelenting, these “armor hunters” will stop at nothing to destroy X-O Manowar – and anything or anyone else that might get in their way.
Written by Robert Venditti (Green Lantern, X-O Manowar) and beautifully illustrated by Doug Braithwaite (Unity, Justice), Armor Hunters is a four-issue mini series great for both long-time readers of the Valiant heroes, but also for brand new ones, looking to experience and explore fresh characters.
