Will Godzilla Be King Of The Theatres? Biff Bam Pop’s Box Office Predictions

The might of one of movie’s greatest monsters should come crashing down at the box office this weekend. How much will this summer blockbuster pull in? Here’s our prediction:

godzilla2014_poster2It’s been hard not to get excited about the new Godzilla film. The trailers have been simply outstanding, giving an air of tension and fear that the last, lacklustre American version was sorely lacking. This Godzilla entry seems to be a massive film of fear and destruction, which is exactly what it should be delivering. Some reviews have suggested that the script should have spent more time on the human characters, but from my perspective, as long as we get lots of monsters fighting each other, I’ll be a happy camper, as will the millions of Godzilla fans. Look for the film to have an excellent opening weekend with $75 million to put it at number one.

As for the rest of the top five, look for last week’s number one, Neighbors, to fall to number two with $25 million. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will land at number three with $17 million. New release Million Dollar Arm, a Disney baseball flick staring Jon Hamm, should debut in fourth place with a decent $16 million, while The Other Woman will close things out in fifth with $5 million.

So, to recap, here are our predictions:

1) Godzilla – $75 million
2) Neighbors – $25 million
3) The Amazing Spider-Man 2 – $17 million
4) Million Dollar Arm – $16 million
5) The Other Woman – $5 million

Be sure to check back on Sunday to see how the weekend turns out!
