Frozen Doesn’t Freeze, Catching Fire Burns Bright – Biff Bam Pop’s Weekend Box Office Wrap-Up Report

It was an absolutely huge weekend at the box office, for both last week’s champion and this week’s new release. Here’s what went down.

Catching Fire did an incredible $74.5 million in its second weekend in release, dropping just 53% week to week, bringing its current total to $296 million and counting. Will it make it to over $400 million within a month. Magic 8 Ball says there’s a very good chance.

In its first weekend out, Disney’s Frozen was also a huge success, bringing in $66 million to debut in second place. The film should certainly have a solid run through the holiday season.

As for the rest of the top five, Thor: The Dark World hit third place with $11 million, putting it just a little over $10 million from the $200 million mark in North America. The Best Man Holiday was in fourth with $8.5 million while Homefront, this weekend’s other new release, barely registered with $6.9 million.

So, to recap, here were our predictions:

1) Catching Fire – $70 million
2) Frozen – $45 million
3) Thor: The Dark World – $13 million
4) Homefront – $10 million
5) Delivery Man – $8 million

1) Catching Fire – $74.5 million
2) Frozen – $66.7 million
3) Thor: The Dark World – $11 million
4) The Best Man Holiday – $8.5 million
5) Homefront – $6.9 million
