Identity Thief Robs Snitch Of The Top Spot – Biff Bam Pop’s Weekend Box Office Wrap-Up Report

Not a great weekend at the box office, as none of the top five films managed to even hit $15 million. Here’s what went down:

Dwayne The Rock Johnson’s latest film, Snitch, only managed to grab $13 million in its first weekend out. While it may be good enough for second place, with The Rock’s high-profile right now, I’d say that this is a disappointing number. However, I doubt this is reflective of Johnson’s popularity. Snitch is the smallest of his upcoming films, and I expect to see G.I. Joe: Retaliation and Pain and Gain to post better numbers when they’re released.

Identity Thief grabbed the first spot with $14 million, bringing it’s three-week total to nearly $100 million. Escape From Planet Earth was in third place with $11 million, Safe Haven hit fourth place with $10.6 million, while A Good Day To Die Hard crashed and burned to fifth place, dropping 60% with just $10 million. The Bruce Willis franchise has only grossed $50 in North America so far and will likely miss out on the magic $100 million mark.

As for the weekend’s other new release, Dark Skies had to settle for sixth place with an underwhelming $8.8 million.

4) Identity Thief – $13.5 million
5) Safe Haven – $11 million
