Gilbert Speaks on ‘Invisible City’

A big “Thank You” goes out to my little sister for recommending the Netflix series Invisible City to me. This Brazilian original fantasy series is worth the watch. Check out my review to find out why you should be watching this amazing series.

Invisible City

I really needed to binge watch this series. It was a bad week, and I needed to escape into the world of fantasy; Invisible City definitely fit the need. Invisible City is a well written, fantasy drama series that was created by Carlos Saldanha, and directed by Luis Carone and Julia Pacheco Jordao. The series revolves around the hidden world of mythologic creatures that come from Brazilian folklore and stars Marco Pigossi, Alessandra Negrini, Fabio Lago, Jessica Cores, Jimmy London, Julia Konrad, and Manuela Dieguez as Luna.

In the first of seven episodes, an environmental police officer, Eric (Marco Pigossi) is busy at work while his wife Gabriela (Julia Konrad) is at a festival with their daughter Luna (Manuela Dieguez). When his wife is found dead at the festival after someone starts a fire in the forest, Eric is pulled into a world he never knew existed and becomes almost maniacal in finding out how his wife died. To add to the mystery of his wife’s death, a dead pink river dolphin is washed ashore. Are the two events connected?

As Eric delves deeper into his wife’s death with the help of his fellow officer, Marcia (Aurea Maranhao), he realizes that some of the people he is interviewing are much more than what they portray to the world. Eric meets many supernatural entities such as a shapeshifting Tapir (Jimmy London), a witch (Alessandra Negrini), a Saci/prankster (Wesley Guimaraes), and a mermaid (Jessica Cores). There are dark forces trying to force the people who live in the forest to abandon their homes, but these forces are human, or mostly human, and their plans to destroy the forest all have to do with greed and profit. One by one, the mythical creatures who are protecting the forest are killed by a evil entity known as Dry Body.

Conclusion

While Eric is busy solving his wife’s death, Luna begins to act strangely enough that her great grandmother, Januaria (Thaia Perez), must seek help from a healer. The season finale ends with an unexpected cliffhanger that left me hoping for a second season, but no worries, a second season is in the works.

I have read reviews that compared Invisible City to the series Grimm and American Gods, which I would agree with. This puts Invisible City in good company if you are in the mood to watch a horror, fantasy done right.

You can watch Invisible City on Netflix, and I am guessing that you will like it enough to binge watch. It is worth the ride.
