Two new films were released this weekend, but only one really resonated with audiences. Here’s what went down.
Find out how the rest of the weekend turned out after the jump!
This week also saw what must be the end of the Scary Movie franchise. The fifth instalment could only muster up $15 million for second place, a far cry from the previous film’s $40 million opening. Even with the train wreck possibilities of Charlie Sheen and Lindsay Lohan in the same film, audiences just weren’t interested. Better luck on DVD.
As for the rest of the top five, The Croods took third place with $13 million, raising its total to $142 million. G.I.Joe: Retaliation brought in $10 million to claim fourth place and pass the $100 million mark. The rebooted Evil Dead fell to fifth with $9.5 million.
So, to recap, here were our predictions:
1) Scary Movie 5 – $22 million
2) 42 – $20.5 million
3) Evil Dead – $13.5 million
4) The Croods – $12 million
5) G.I. Joe: Retaliation – $10 million
And here’s how the weekend turned out:
