Figure Friday: Mythic Legions’ Blue Hagnon Returns in a Rerelease

Last year Four Horsemen Studios announced a Retailer Appreciation Wave of exclusive figures. These figures from both the Figura Obscura and Mythic Legions lines were offered as a way to say thank you to their approved retail partners. The first two figures from the Figura Obscura line were a Spectral Green Headless Horsemen and a Green Robed Father Christmas, both of which hit shelves before the end of 2023. The Mythics are just now starting to hit shelves, so I headed down to my local retailer, Sarge and Red’s, and grabbed the Blue Hagnon figure.

Once a proud soldier in The Order of Eathyron, Hagnon led a legendary campaign that led to one of The Congregation of Necronominus’ greatest defeats. Later hunted and captured by the treacherous Brother Mandibulus, he was brought to the unforgiving Morgolyth for his final reckoning. In a chilling act of revenge, Morgolyth ended Hagnon’s life and resurrected him as one of her own. Eternally chained and shackled for his crimes, he has become the menacing and forever-conflicted ghostly agent of Necronominus.

…a long-time fan requested figure, the ghostly Hagnon finally gets his reissue as a “blue” glow in the dark release. He glows blue and he IS blue, making him very different from his first release!

The original Hagnon figure was a clear white translucent ghost soldier offered as part of the second Mythic Legions Kickstarter campaign back in 2017. I arrived to the Mythic Legions line much later, so I appreciate the opportunity to add a figure I missed out on from earlier in the line.

This release is identical to the original Hagnon with the exception of the colour. This Hagnon has a ghostly blue translucent appearance that also glows blue in the dark. The original Hagnon, in white/clear plastic, glowed green in the dark, so this is a nice update that offers a unique look without making the original version obsolete.

Rereleases are always a slippery slope for collectors. On one hand, long time fans that have been collecting since the beginning don’t want to see the value of those original pieces plummet. On the other hand, there were some pretty awesome figures that came out earlier in the line that new-comers would like to acquire. I think the way the Horsemen have been handling these rereleases by offering repaints or unique colour-ways is the right approach. It doesn’t devalue the original too much and it makes the line more accessible to new fans.

Blue Hagnon comes with a ball and chain and shackles, a wooden shield and bone handled sword. The real stars of the offering are the three alternate head sculpts. Out of the box, Blue Hagnon features a zombified decaying head. Additionally, you get a skeleton head with an articulated jaw and a knight’s helmet. Each brings a distinct look and it will truly be a tough choice as to which one I’ll display on a regular basis. I’m leaning towards the knight’s helmet. It gives me Scooby-Doo villain of the week vibes.

Overall this is a pretty solid offering. The blue translucent plastic looks fantastic, and while blue doesn’t glow quite as vibrant as a traditional green, it’s still effective when charged with a black light. If you’re in the market for a ghostly skeleton zombie knight that glows in the dark, your local retailer might just have one for you. I think you’ll be happy with your purchase.
