31 Days of Horror 2023: Exorcist and Author Rachel Stavis Shares her Halloween Must-Watches

“The power of Christ compels you.”

You don’t have to be a horror film fanatic to recognize that line from The Exorcist. But exorcism isn’t just a movie creation. It’s been part of the world of Hollywood for years. Just ask Rachel Stavis, author of Sister of Darkness: The Chronicles of a Modern Exorcist.

Rachel Stavis is a world-renowned exorcist – the only known female and non-denominational exorcist – the real deal.  Known as Hollywood’s best kept secret – serving rock icons, Oscar-winners, and many more – she is on a mission to create global change by eradicating darkness that consumes even the most elite. Rachel’s story is a revelation, shining a light on the mysterious and fascinating realm of modern-day exorcism. “Sister of Darkness” is not just about scares and thrills; it’s a thought-provoking exploration of the unseen forces that plague humanity.  In a world filled with tales of horror and the supernatural, Rachel is our guide into the very real world of the unexplained and she introduces us to the diverse range of “entities” that surround us, she explains their power, and what we can do to protect ourselves from the dark forces of the Spirit realm.

Sister of Darkness: The Chronicles of a Modern Exorcist, published by Harper Collins, is currently in development for a scripted series adaptation at FX with renowned director, actress, and producer Pamela Adlon (Better Things, King of the Hill, Californication) signed on to executive produce.

As part of 31 Days of Horror 2023, we asked Rachel Stavis to share with us her must-watches during Halloween season.

1) The Changeling is one of my all time favorite films. I’m a sucker for haunted house movies and for me, this is the best.

2) I also love Lady in White, a film from the late ’80s that absolutely should find a new audience. A child’s friendship with the ghost of another child solves a terrible murder.

3) Everyone probably rewatches at least one Guillermo Del Toro film, and Crimson Peak is the one I turn to. I love a gothic horror where everyone is a villain. It gives me the vapors.

4) I was also psyched that Stephen King’s Rose Red streamed this year! Whoever hasn’t seen it should absolutely watch. Again, giant gothic house with issues.

5) And of course Fall of the House of Usher is incredible in practically every way, so I’m watching that again, even though I just finished it. So stunning, and the acting!!!! The story!! The fun Edgar Allen Poe references! Obviously Mike Flanagan can do no wrong and I’m here for it.
