If you’re into horror, it would be safe to say that one horror franchise should have stayed dead and buried considering the results of this week’s box office. Here’s what went down:
The good news first – M.Night Shymalan’s Split is at the top of the box office for a third week in a row. The film brought in an estimated $14.6 million, raising its total to $98.7 million. It’s the first Shyamalan film to stay on top for three weeks, and in a day or two it will pass the $100 million mark. With two hits in a row, clearly the director is back to his winning ways.
Debuting in second place with $13 million was Rings. With horrible reviews and a lack of audience interest, its clear waiting more than a decade for a third entry into the franchise was a mistake, as was making an apparently horrible film.
As for the rest of the top five, A Dog’s Purpose was in third place with $10.8 million. Hidden Figures grabbed the fourth spot with $10.1 million, La La Land closed things out in fifth place with $7.45 million.
So, to recap, here were our predictions:
1) Split – $15 million
2) Rings – $11.5 million
3) A Dog’s Purpose – $9 million
4) Hidden Figures – $8.5 million
5) La La Land – $7 million
And here’s how the weekend is estimated to turn out:
1) Split – $14.6 million
2) Rings – $13 million
3) A Dog’s Purpose – $10.8 million
4) Hidden Figures – $10.1 million
5) La La Land – $7.45 million
Next weekend sees the release of The LEGO Batman Movie, Fifty Shades Darker and John Wick 2. Be sure to check in on Friday to see our predictions!
