Don’t expect The Transporter to be transported to the top of the box office

It’s the final official weekend of the summer, when films that folks typically have minimal interest in get released. This year is no exception. How will things go down? Here’s our prediction:

The one and only wide release film this weekend is The Transporter: Refuelled, a new entry in the modestly succesful action film franchise. However, this is instalment in missing Jason Statham, which means it’s missing any real buzz from the core audience. Add in the Labour Day long weekend, cottages, etc, and this film is pretty much going to be DOA. Look for a second place showing with $8.5 million.

As for the rest of the top five, Straight Outta Compton should make it four in a row on top with $12 million. War Room will be in third place with $7 millon. Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation will be in fourth place with $6.5 million, while No Escape will close things out in fifth place with $6 million.

So, to recap, here are our predictions:

1) Straight Outta Compton – $12 million
2) The Transporter: Refuelled – $8.5 million
3) War Room – $7 million
4) Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation – $6.5 million
5) No Escape – $6 million
