Can Any Movie Purge The Apes From The Top? Biff Bam Pop’s Box Office Predictions

The summer movie roles on, this weekend with the arrival of two sequels and another R-rated comedy. Only one can top the box office. Which will it be? Here are our predictions:

The Purge: Anarchy is the sequel to last summer’s horror hit, which grossed $34 million on its opening weekend. Don’t look for this one to do as well; it’s got some serious competition for the top spot with Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, which should hold onto number one for the second weekend in a row. Look for The Purge: Anarchy to debut in second place with $30 million.

Also new this weekend is Planes: Fire and Rescue, a family friendly entry that should be close behind in third place with $28 million. As for the third new release of the weekend, Jason Segal and Cameron Diaz star in Sex Tape, which should satiate everyone looking for an R-rated laugh or two. It could very well duke it out with Planes, so look for it to right behind it with $27 million; they could switch spots when it’s all said and done.

As for the rest of the top five, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes will bring in $34 million for number one, while Transformers: Age of Extinction will round out the top five with $8 million.

So, to recap, here are our predictions:

1) Dawn of the Planet of the Apes – $34 million
2) The Purge: Anarchy – $30 million
3) Planes: Fire and Rescue – $28 million
4) Sex Tape – $27 million
5) Transfomers: Age of Extinction – $8 million
