Rio 2 is the sequel to the 2011 film that did very well for itself at the time, grossing nearly $500 million worldwide. This film should do quite well for itself, and will be neck and neck with Cap when it comes to the higher gross. Look for Rio 2 to settle for second place with $41 million.
As for the rest of the top five, the critically acclaimed Captain America: The Winter Soldier should have another stellar weekend. Look for it to hold onto the top spot with $43 million. Our first horror film in months, Occulus should manage a surprise third place showing with $15 million, while the Kevin Costner flick Draft Day will be right behind it in fourth place with $13 million. Look for Noah to close things out in fifth with $10.5 million.
So, to recap, here are our predictions:
1) Captain America: The Winter Soldier – $43 million
2) Rio 2 – $41 million
3) Occulus – $15 million
4) Draft Day – $13 million
