After Earth Vs Now You See Me – Biff Bam Pop’s Box Office Predictions

Will a movie about magic see some money this weekend? Can the first M. Night Shyamalan film since The Sixth Sense to not use his name as a selling point make any impact? Here’s our prediction:

Jaden and Will Smith top-line the science fiction film After Earth, a big budget blockbuster like so many others from throughout the years that’s purpose simply seems to be to take away theatre counts from other films. The casting screams of nepotism, and where once director Shymalan was a drawing factor, his name is nowhere to be seen in marketing for After Earth. In one of M Night’s patented twist endings, I’m predicting that this film will have a seriously underwhelming debut. Look for a second place showing with $32 million.

Find out how the rest of the weekend will turn out after the jump!
Now You See Me is a magic based, Robin Hood-esque flick staring Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Morgan Freeman, Isla Fisher and Michael Caine, and directed by Louis Leterrier. The trailers have been superb and, while none of the stars tend to open movies, they’re all solid enough hands that they should help the film an audience. Look for a third place debut with $28 million.

As for the rest of the top five, Fast & Furious 6 should hold onto the top spot with $42 million. Star Trek Into Darkness will grab fourth place with $20 million, while Epic will close things out in fifth with $19.5 million.

So, to recap, here are our predictions:

1) Fast & Furious 6 – $42 million
2) After Earth – $32 million
3) Now You See Me – $28 million
4) Star Trek Into Darkness – $20 million
5) Epic – $19.5 million
