T’was a big weekend at the box office, with a big debut from two films, one that I totally discounted from the top five predictions I made on Friday. So what went down? Read on.
Find out how the rest of the weekend turned out after the jump!
Clearly, this wasn’t my weekend, as two other films I thought would bring in big money didn’t. In the case of Harmony Korine’s buzz flick Spring Breakers, it had to settle for sixth place and only $5 million. While far from what I called, the film will still make a profit and is the director’s highest profile film so far. As for Admission, neither Tina Fey or Paul Rudd were able to save this from being a dude. The film debut in fifth with an abysmal $6.4 million.
As for the rest of the top five, Oz: The Great And Powerful dropped to third with $22 million, while The Call hit third place with $8.7 million.
So, to recap, here were our predictions:
1) The Croods – $40 million
2) Oz: The Great And Powerful – $25 million
3) Spring Breakers – $17 million
4) Admission – $12 million
5) The Call – $10 million
And here’s how the weekend turned out:
1) The Croods – $44 million
2) Olympus Has Fallen – $33 million
3) Oz: The Great And Powerful – $22 million
4) The Call – $8.7
5) Admission – $6.4 million
Next week sees the release of G.I. Joe: Retaliation and The Host. Be sure to check back on Friday to see our predictions.
