Texas Chainsaw Massacre Cuts Into The Top Five – Biff Bam Pop’s Weekend Box Office Wrap-Up Report

When you’re wrong, you’re wrong, and in the case of the box office predictions this week, I was way off. Here’s what went down.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D, which I didn’t think would make it anywhere near the top five, actually wound up the number one film at the box office this weekend, grossing an admirable $23 million. It’s certainly safe to say that horror fans, who hadn’t been served since October, ate up this direct sequel to the 70’s original. I doubt it will hold up next weekend, but hey, I’ve been wrong before.

As for the rest of the top five, Django Unchained claimed the second spot, bringing in $20 million and upping its North American total to $106 million. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey fell from first to third place with $17 million for a total of $263 million in a month. Les Miserables hit fourth spot with $16 million, bringing its total to $103 million, while Parental Guidance closed out the top five with $10 million for a total of $52 million.

Meanwhile, Matt Damon’s Promised Land could only muster up $4 million and a tenth place showing.

3) Les Miserables – $18 million
4) Parental Guidance – $12 million
5) Promised Land – $8.9 million
