Figure Friday: Wolverine Masked, Ro-Bear-Bill and More in this Giant-Sized Column

The temptation to go back to the well this week and once again write about Transformers, Star Wars, TMNT, etc. strong. There’s an endless supply of new content for those things and the new Optimus Prime they unveiled today IS pretty neat.

Let’s see what else is out there…

ThunderCats ULTIMATES! Ro-Bear-Bill by Super7

“What a time to be alive…”

Super7 continues to both confound and delight me with their deep cut figure choices for their Ultimates lines. It’s personally benefitted me since I’ve got both Moe Szyslak and Poochie the Dog figures on the shelf in my office so I’m content to let them cook.

That said, never in my life did I expect to see an Ro-Bear-Bill figure from Thundercats in the year 2024.

Way, way back in the 1980s I was into Thundercats about as much as I was into any other after school cartoon with a tie-in toy line. There were a lot of commercials competing for my parents’ dollar so I had a solitary Lion-O and that was it for me. Recently I revisited the 2011 Thundercats reboot cartoon that lasted only one fantastic season before getting the axe for, get this, not selling enough toys.

The Ro-Bear Berbils were robot teddy bears that featured prominently in both series and they are awesome. Just look at this guy!

They also all sounded like they were in Daft Punk so that’s not nothing.

This may not be the first Ro-Bear Berbil toy but it very well could be the best one.

Werewolf by Night Marvel Legends Man-Thing

This is just here so I can write, “Giant-Sized Man-Thing” again. Tee-hee.

Deadpool & Wolverine MMS753 Wolverine 1/6th Scale Collectible Figure by Hot Toys

In what’s probably the biggest toy news this week, Hot Toys has unveiled their giant sized man thing of a figure with their titular Wolverine from the forthcoming Deadpool & Wolverine.

I find it a little bit funny that Marvel/Disney wasn’t able to keep a lid on promotional images/ toys of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine finally wearing a mask after 25 years of the X-movies running from it. I’m sure it’s going to be a big moment when it happens in the movie and the real question is, how much is he going to actually wear the mask? I’m willing to bet most of the stuff seen in the trailers will have the mask added via CGI for the final cut of the movie.

Also, how weird is it that Jackman has been playing the role for about half of the character’s existence?

The typical Hot Toys dark magic is at work here where they capture Jackman’s likeness and no doubt a small part of his soul in the sculpt of this figure. That’s what you get with the Deluxe version along with battle damage for the costume, moveable eyeballs, and two tickets to the gun show with removable sleeves.

The Deluxe edition will set you back $340 USD and the Collector edition is $280. Both are expected to ship between April and September of next year.

I’m an OG Deadpool hater. The character has never done much for me but even I have to admit that Ryan Reynolds is perfect for the role and he got Hugh Jackman to suit up one more time (I’m sure the dump truck of money didn’t hurt either). I’ve got mild concerns since Logan was such a perfect movie and farewell to the character but it seems like this Wolverine is going to be a variant of the multiversal variety or at the very least this take place years before Logan.

But, hey, that “yellow spandex” joke from the first X-Men movie is finally getting a payoff after two and a half decades, right?
