Back once again with all the horror news that’s fit to click, I’ve got scoops on a sweet new release of Canadian classic Black Christmas, a new live-action adaptation of the Death Note anime, and a whole lot more! Check it all out in The Week in Horror!

The classic Canadian horror, Black Christmas, is getting a snappy new release this holiday season. Scream Factory will present the new 4K Ultra HD release on December 6, and the package includes some very compelling and exhaustive special features that make this seem like the definitive version of the horror classic.

Included in the 3-disc set are:

DISC ONE (4K UHD):

DISC TWO (BLU-RAY):

DISC THREE (BLU-RAY):

There’s a Collector’s Edition which includes a poster for the movie, and a Deluxe Edition that also includes a sweet set of pins. Both are available for preorder from Scream Factory.

The live-action adaptation of the iconic anime Death Note is inching closer to reality. The project, previously-attempted to a mixed reception was by Adam Wingard in 2017. This new project is backed by Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer and their new production company, Upside Down and would be expected to land on Netflix. Deadline announced this week that the project has its writer in Halia Abdel-Meguid, who is also working on an adaptation of Peter Straub’s The Talisman for Upside Down. The series is said to be a completely different take than Wingard’s 2017 film.

BBP chief Andy Burns was a big fan of Halloween Ends, while some of the rest of us were kind of lukewarm on it, to be honest. Well, everyone can seemingly have their cake and eat it too as Bloody Disgusting has a new review of Paul Brad Logan’s novelization of the divisive film by Ike Oden which claims it to be ‘very much its own thing.’ According to the review, the story “takes the film’s muddled premise and fleshes it out into a haunting conclusion that fans didn’t know they wanted.” That alone is intriguing, and even more, contains “creative callbacks to everything from the Cult of the Thorn to the family Tramer.” I’ll be looking for this one on bookshelves, as it’s available right now from Titan Books.

Finally, RLJE Films has a trailer for its new horror called The Friendship Game, which stars Cobra Kai‘s Peyton List. The movie “follows a group of teens as they come across a strange object that tests their loyalties to each other and has increasingly destructive consequences the deeper into the game they go.” Like a more circular Hellraiser, perhaps? Check out the trailer to find out, ahead of The Friendship Game’s release on November 11.
