Ted 2 looks to take down Jurassic World

Can a talking bear take down the biggest movie of 2015 (so far)? That’s what we’re going to find out this weekend. Here’s our prediction:

Ted 2 is obviously the sequel to the 2012 hit from writer/director Seth McFarlane, and staring Mark Wahlberg. The original brought in an impressive $218 million in North America and (briefly) made McFarlane the toast of Hollywood. Makes sense to go back to the well, doesn’t it? Excitement hasn’t been particularly high for this one, though, and I doubt it will make any real improvements upon the original. In fact, look for a $49 million debut from Ted 2 (less than the original’s $54 million) and a third place showing, all in the shadow of Jurassic World.

Also opening this weekend is Max, a film about an American military dog that should certainly play well with a certain segment of North America. Look for a fourth place showing with $10 million.

As for the rest of the top five, look for Jurassic World to once more hold on to the top of the box office with $60 million, as it pushes its way past $500 million. Inside Out should continue to perform well, by landing in second place with $55 million, Finally, Spy should close things out in fifth place with $7 million.

So, to recap, here are our predictions:

1) Jurassic World – $60 million
2) Inside Out – $55 million
3) Ted 2 – $49 million
4) Max – $10 million
5) Spy – $7 million
