A huge weekend at the box office, with one film performing exceedingly well, while another failed, even though it had good marks from audiences. Here’s what went down.
Find out how the rest of the weekend turned out after the jump!
Opening in second place with a hugely disappointing $28.9 million is the Johnny Depp-Gore Verbinski team-up, The Lone Ranger. Critics savaged the film, but according to Deadline, audience scores coming out of the film gave it a B+ rating. However, that just isn’t going to matter. The film is on its way to be a colossal dud, and I’m sceptical it will even hit $100 million.
As for the rest of the top five, The Heat was not far behind The Lone Ranger with $24.8 to claim third place. Monsters University was in fourth with $19.1 million, while World War Z closed things out in fifth with $17.8 million.
So, to recap, here were our predictions:
1) Despicable Me 2 – $85 million
2) Monsters University – $30 million
3) The Lone Ranger – $25 million
4) The Heat – $24.5 million
5) White House Down – $18 million
