Two new releases are looking for your money this weekend, but will either of them be able to unseat Oz from the top of the box office? Here are our predictions:
The Incredible Burt Wonderstone features two comedic juggernauts in Jim Carey and Steve Carell, reuniting in their first live action film since 2003’s Bruce Almighty. This magical comedy has a solid cast, including James Gandolphini, Steve Buscemi and Olivia Wilde, and is the most high profile new release of the weekend. Trouble is, neither Carrey or Carell have been on their A-games of late. While both are still decent draws, that may not translate to huge opening weekend numbers. However, the budget for The Incredible Burt Wonderstone is a modest $30 million, so the film should have no problem recouping its costs, regardless of this first weekend out. All that being said, look for a second place showing with $29 million.
Find out how the rest of the weekend will turn out after the jump!
As for the rest of the weekend, Oz: The Great And Powerful will easily hold on to the top spot at the box office with $40 million; Jack The Giant Slayer will grab fifth place with $6 million, while Identity Thief will close out the top five with $5 million.
So, to recap, here are our predictions:
1) Oz: The Great And Powerful – $40 million
2) The Incredible Burt Wonderstone – $29 million
3) The Call – $12 million
4) Jack The Giant Slayer – $6 million
5) Identity Thief – $5 million
