While not necessarily “amazing”, the rebooted Spider-Man franchise had an extremely strong opening weekend, while Oliver Stone’s latest film also had a decent debut showing. Find out what went down at the box office after the jump.
Also debuting this week was the latest Oliver Stone film Savages. The film placed fourth with $16 million, a decent showing for a film with no big draws (Blake Lively, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Taylor Kitsch are the leads). We’ll have a review of Savages up later this week, but it is well worth checking out and was decent summer counter programming.
As for the rest of the top five, Ted continued to draw crowds, landing in second with $32.5 million, bringing its two week total to $120 million. Pixar’s Brave took fourth spot with $20 million, while Magic Mike lost a bit of magic, dropping two spots and 60% to land at number five with $15.6 million. As for Katy Perry: Part of Me, the concert film debut at number eight with just $7 million.
