An unexpected traveler, walker theatre, and unexpected curveballs bring to a close this season’s finale of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon.
Solaz del Mar
Codron (Romain Levi) is in Spain and finds Laurent’s Rubic cube, so he knows that Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Carol (Melissa McBride) are close by. Wondering how he got there, and what his intentions are, but for now, we jump back and forth from Solaz to El Alcazar so many times that I got whiplash. While Elena (Greta Fernandez) helps Justina (Candela Saitta) dress for the festival where men Guillermo’s men get to pick a bride, Daryl and Paz are on a rescue mission dressed as waiters.
In France we had the Cabaret Walkers and in Spain…not to be outdone…we have the Marionette Walkers. I would love to chat with the person on The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon that comes up with all these crazy ideas. I think we’re soulmates, lol. In keeping with the Spaghetti Western theme, Daryl and Paz (Alexandra Masangkay) give us a battle scene that equals the Walker Train episode. Paz learns Elena’s secret and why she stayed by Guillermo’s side. I was not expecting this reveal, but it makes perfect sense.
Carol does not know how to stay put. She is safe with Valentina (Irina Bjorklund) and Roberto (Hugo Arbues), but she decides to check on Antonio (Eduardo Noriega). Fede has lied to his mother Dona Marga and proceeds to torture Antonio to quell the growing dissent among his people.
Conclusion and Spoilers
In a country, or town where a powerful man withholds food and medicine to gain control, bad things happen. Fede and Daryl have both survived the zombie apocalypse and the loss of many friends and family, and yet, Daryl chose the path of righteousness, while Fede (Oscar Jaenada) chose to be a dictator. Guillermo had the same choice, but power always corrupts. It is always left in the hands of the people to force a dictator from his throne.
We are dealing with a dictator right now in these United States, but yesterday, it has been recorded (not official yet) that close to seven million people came out onto the streets for a peaceful protest. Walkers represent a civilization gone wrong, but here in the states, frogs are saving us.
After Daryl rescues Carol, Antonio, and Roberto, we are privy to a conversation Daryl had with Carol about his need to wander. Will he ever stop running from his childhood trauma and the people he loved and lost? Unfortunately for all concerned, our Ninja Warriors are stuck in Spain, and we are left to wonder what Codron is up to.
In the end, no matter how long this spinoff from The Walking Dead continues, I will always have a soft spot for Daryl. As important as Rick was to the show, it was Daryl (Norman Reedus) who always stood his ground and kept true to his integrity. Daryl’s horrific childhood created the ultimate survivor. Daryl, in every instance, is as straight as the arrows from his crossbow. He kills to survive but protects those he has taken under his wing. Carol (Melissa McBride) is also the ultimate survivor, but she is cunning while being “Mother” to those who need her protection. Daryl and Carol may not be lovers, but they are the perfect example of Yin and yang.
