We’re in the midst of 31 Days of Horror around these parts, but if you’re a pro wrestling fan, there are few stories more horrifying than that of the Von Erich family. The Texas megastars in wrestling, bonafide legends reached magnificent heights before far too many met tragic ends.

Martha Marcy May Marlene director Sean Durkin brings the tragic story of the Von Erich’s to life in a new biopic called The Iron Claw for A24, set to ruin your Christmas this December. Given Durkin’s tendency to explore psychological trauma and darkness from an inward-looking perspective, I’m expecting to need a whole lot of tissues for this one.

The Iron Claw is “The true story of the inseparable Von Erich brothers, who made history in the intensely competitive world of professional wrestling in the early 1980s. Through tragedy and triumph, under the shadow of their domineering father and coach, the brothers seek larger-than-life immortality on the biggest stage in sports.”

Starring a bulked-up Jeremy Allen White (The Bear), Zac Efron (High School Musical), Maura Tierney (The Affair), Harris Dickinson (Triangle of Sadness), Holt McCallany (Mindhunter) and the film debut of Maxwell “MJF” Friedman, the biopic will hit theatres on December 22, 2023.
