It was an extremely tight race at the the box office this weekend, and things may shift slightly once the final numbers come in on Monday, but as of Sunday afternoon, the big new release managed to hit the top. Here’s what went down:
Following close behind in second place is Big Hero 6, which brought in $36 million, just a 36% drop from week to week. The film has already made $111 million, and is proving to be a huge hit with families. Not terribly far behind in third place is Interstellar, which itself only dropped 39% to bring in $29 million. That film will cross the $100 million over the next few weeks.
As for the rest of the top five, new release Beyond The Lights had a lacklustre debut with $6.5 million, while Gone Girl closed things out in fifth place with $4.6 million.
So, to recap, here were our predictions:
1) Big Hero 6 – $38 million
2) Dumb and Dumber To – $34 million
3) Intersteller – $29 million
4) Beyond The Lights – $15 million
5) Gone Girl – $5 million
