If it seems like years since you last heard about the reboot of the 1984 gross-out horror classic The Toxic Avenger from the Troma Entertainment founders Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz, well, that’s because it has been. First premiering to astonishingly and overwhelmingly positive reviews at the 2023 edition of Fantastic Fest, the remake from Macon Blair has been languishing on the shelf since then, looking for a distributor to roll the dice on a film with decidedly goopy sensibilities.
Well, fear not, Toxie-fans, because prolific distributor Cineverse has stepped up to the plate to bring The Toxic Avenger to the masses this August, nearly two full years removed from the film’s premiere. Blair’s version stars Peter Dinklage as the titular Toxie, Kevin Bacon, Jacob Tremblay, and Elijah Wood.
