I love better than a gorgeous book, and our friends at The Folio Society continue to deliver the goods when it comes to their ongoing Marvel Heroes library.
Following previous titles that have featured characters including Doctor Strange and Spider-Man, The Folio Society recently released a new hardcover compiling some of the greatest moments from The Avengers. The issues contained within the hardcover have bee “scanned from their original comics with no digital remastering.”
Selected by legendary Marvel Comics authority, Roy Thomas, The Avengers features 11 defining comics from the history of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including the return of Captain America, the debut of the Vision, and the first issue of Brian Michael Bendis’ groundbreaking overhaul of the team for 2000s. All the issues contained look gorgeous, and the publisher has gone to great lengths in ensuring that their original look and feel remain.
The hardcover comes in a sturdy red slipcase that also houses a facsimile of Avengers #1, the book that started it all for Marvel’s titanic team. Written by Stan Lee and illustrated by Jack Kirby, it’s this issue that would form the inspiration for the first Avengers film, with Loki as the key catalyst that brings Thor, Iron Man, Ant-Men, the Wasp and the Hulk together. Since none of us likely have an original copy of Avengers #1 in our possession, this facsimile by The Folio Society is the next best thing. You’ll want to keep it pristine.
