The early box office estimates are out, and it wasn’t quite the home run for this week’s first place film. Here’s what went down:
As for the rest of the top five, San Andreas dropped to second place with $25 million, raising its two week total in North American to $97 million. Debuting in third was Insidious: Chapter 3 with $23 million, way off from the second film’s $40 million opening. In fourth place was Entourage: The Movie with $10.9 million, raising its five-day total to $18 million, a far from impressive amount. Some shows should just stay shows, it seems. Finally, Pitch Perfect 2 closed things out in fifth with $8.4 million (though it is neck and neck with Mad Max: Fury Road, so they could switch spots come Monday).
So, to recap, here were our predictions:
1) Spy – $47 million
2) San Andreas – $25 million
3) Insidious: Chapter 3 – $23 million
4) Entourage: The Movie – $15 million
5) Mad Max: Fury Road – $9.5 million
And here’s how the weekend turned out:
1) Spy – $32 million
2) San Andreas – $25 million
3) Insidious: Chapter 3 – $23 million
4) Entourage: The Movie – $10.9 million
5) Pitch Perfect 2 – $8.4 million
