One gift that I like to give every year to a select group of pop culture pals, is the gift of great, cool t-shirts.
Follow me after the jump for a few websites that I like to frequent and items of apparel and sundry for that pop culture lover in your life!
Threadless is a website I’ve been buying great looking (if slightly hipster-esque) t-shirts for a number of years. Friends have been the recipients of these great tees, too, for both the winter holidays and birthdays. Essentially, the shirt designs found on Threadless are created artists across the continent. There’s a real sense of artistic legitimacy on this site – as opposed to other mass-marketed t-shirt sites, which, by chance, also make up this particular column.
But Threadless is my fave of the bunch. From mens to womens to kids; from t-shirts to long sleeves to hoodies – you’ll find something with a cool design for that great gift!
Think Geek is the place to go to if you’re looking for something specific around Star Trek (where else can you find a red-shirt uh, polo shirt or an original series Captain’s boxers?) or Doctor Who (Tardis slippers, knee-high socks, scarf or old-school bathrobe – awesome!) or Game of Thrones (house sigil Christmas tree ornaments, Stark beanies or “Valar Morghulis” tees).
There’s more stuff to discover here, so take a trip through the land of pop culture. As Mister Spock says, you’ll be sure to find something…fascinating.
Back in the day, we used to head to downtown head shops or flea markets for our favourite band t-shirts (if you missed the concert). Now, you just head to Hot Topic. All pop-culture is here, and widely accessible. It doesn’t matter if you’re a rocker, comic book fan or a nu-Goth. This is cool pop for those that have got caught up in a scene – and an easy place for parents and uncles and aunts to find something of interest for their kid, cousin or nephew.
Don’t get me wrong. I might be a bit of a snob, but Hot Topic has its place. And you’re certain to find something cool to give here.
Wherever you find your gift, make it quick: the holidays are coming up fast – and the mailman’s back is sure to be burdened with weight!
