The summer is right around the corner! The days are getting longer, and the playlists are heating up. Whether you’re gearing up for rooftop hangs, late-night drives, or dancing under the stars, this week’s instalment of What’s Going On has got you covered. From sun-soaked dance bangers to moody midnight anthems, here are the freshest drops that deserve a spot in your rotation. Let’s dive in. As always, if you dig what you hear, be sure to stream and follow these artists.

Sabrina CarpenterSabrina Carpenter is kicking off a bold new era with the release of her breezy yet sharp-tongued single “Manchild” and the announcement of her seventh (wow!) studio album Man’s Best Friend, dropping August 29th. Teaming up again with hitmakers Jack Antonoff and Amy Allen, the track skyrocketed to #1 on Spotify’s US and Global charts and racked up over 15 million video views in days. The controversial album cover art for Man’s Best Friend has launched a thousand thinkpieces, but that’s why we love Sabrina. She gets people talking!

Raf-Saperra – British Punjabi trailblazer Raf-Saperra is out now with “Step Out”, a bold new single produced by hitmaker Ikky and released via Polydor UK and Universal Music Canada. Venturing into the pop market while keeping his Punjabi roots front and center, Raf delivers an infectious, genre-defying track that blends dub, dancehall, and folk lyricism with sleek electronic production. The high-energy visual, co-directed by Bedroom Projects and Avleen Kaur, captures Raf in full evolution. “Step Out” marks the start of a daring new chapter and teases a boundary-pushing EP that redefines what Punjabi music can sound like. Get into it!

TyriqueOrDie – Toronto’s own TyriqueOrDie kicks off 2025 with the disco-house banger “U Know How Dis Go,” his first release under Universal Music Canada. Produced by Rafael Khan, the track blends infectious grooves with Tyrique’s smooth flow and cheeky lyricism, capturing the flirty, slowed-down thrill of a dancefloor connection. A staple of Toronto’s rave scene and a driving force behind Toronto Hardcore, Tyrique channels summer party energy straight from his bedroom studio to the world. Some of the best electronic music today is coming out of Toronto, and Tyrique is proof of that.

Sammy Virji – London-based producer/DJ Sammy Virji announces his sophomore album Same Day Cleaning, out September 19 via Capitol, and marks the moment with a surprise pop-up party today in NYC’s Times Square. A UKG fixture making waves on both sides of the Atlantic, Sammy’s had a massive 2025, drawing huge Coachella crowds, going B2B with Four Tet, and dropping singles “Nostalgia” ft. Issey Cross and “Cops & Robbers” ft. Skepta. With festival slots and headline shows around the globe, Sammy’s momentum is unstoppable. BABYMETAL – Japanese rockers BABYMETAL return with a vengeance on August 8, dropping their genre-defying new album METAL FORTH via Capitol Records. Meaning “beyond metal,” the album features explosive collabs with Poppy, Spiritbox, Tom Morello, Bloodywood, Electric Callboy, Polyphia, and Slaughter to Prevail—just a whole host of guest stars. Your neighbour down the street is probably on the album, too. Previously released tracks “RATATATA,” “from me to u,” and “Song 3” are already streaming. The hard-rocking trio consisting of SU-METAL, MOAMETAL, and MOMOMETAL kick off their biggest North American tour yet this week, with their largest U.S. headline show ever at LA’s Intuit Dome on November 1.
