If you’re looking for an action-packed science fiction film, then Escape from the 21st Century is definitely for you. Is the future all that we imagined?

Escape from the 21st Century

Escape from the 21st Century is a Chinese sci-fi time travel film written and directed by Yang Li. It stars Ruoyun Zhang, Elane Zhong, Yang Song, Yanmanzi Zhu, and Zhengrong Wen. There are subtitles, but they do not in any way interfere with the high-speed action showcasing three teenage boys, Wang (Zhuozhao Li), Paopao (Qixuan Kang) and Yang Yi (Fanding Ma) from the Planet, K.

The boys soon realize that they can travel into the future after being exposed to toxic chemicals. All they need to do is sneeze, and off they go. In the future, they find themselves in adult bodies (Ruoyun Zhang, Leon Lee), with adult wants and needs. The special effects that director Yang Li uses for the future world are amazing. You really need to pay attention to the storyline because there is so much happening as the three boys realize that they may have to save the future from themselves.

Conclusion

This old Granny wasn’t sure if she was going to like this film at first. But I am very happy that I watched the entire film because hidden amongst the action and humour, and visual brilliance was a moral story. We viewers, along with the boys/ adult men, learn a lesson that is humbling.

The future depends on the past actions of men and mice. Can Wang, Paopao, and Yang Yi save the world? You will find out for yourself when Cineverse releases a limited theatrical release of Escape from the 21st Century on June 9th. It will also be available on Apple TV, Netflix, Plex, Fandango, and MUBI.
