Hello everyone, it’s Anya! Today I’m reviewing the Scott Pilgrim 20th Anniversary Box Set.
Set in Toronto where I live and where Biff Bam Pop! is based, Scott Pilgrim was written and illustrated by Bryan Lee O’Malley. It’s the story of the titular character, who is forced to do battle with the League of Evil Exes if he wants to date American Ramona Flowers. The six book series was made into the cult classic film Scott Pilgrim vs The World, which was directed by Edgar Wright and shot in Toronto in 2009.
2024 marked 20 years since Bryan Lee O’Malley’s instant classic comic book series was released, so Oni Press has created a special edition box set to commemorate the occasion. There are two versions available; one featuring the original black & white versions of the six book series, and one featuring the colour versions that first appeared in 2012.
Both box sets include all six books, a special book of collected extras, a Sex Bob-Omb band poster, a holographic print of Ramona, Scott and Gideon, a poster just like the first release party flyers and three sheets of stickers.
Scott Pilgrim became the key part of my brain back in July 2024 when I bought the first book in black and white to take to camp with me. I read it throughout the month, and something in my brain changed. Now, I look at a Second Cup Coffee and I think “Wow…Stacey Pilgrim and Julie Powers.”
On October 3rd, Bryan Lee O’Malley, the creator of Scott Pilgrim, did a signing at The Beguiling in Toronto for the 20th anniversary. I put on my Ramona Flowers Cosplay, grabbed my best friend and fellow Scott Pilgrim enthusiast Eleanor, loaned her my homemade Plumtree shirt and went down to The Beguiling. It was incredible. We were given these amazing trading cards of characters, and Bryan was so nice, complimenting my hair and cosplay, and even confirming that Mobile (Wallace’s boyfriend) does end up working at Nintendo after all!
Bryan Lee O’Malley and Oni Press did an outstanding job putting together these collections. Overall, whether you choose the black & white or colour versions (both designed like original PlayStation boxes) the Scott Pilgrim 20th Anniversary Box Set is a fantastic gift for anyone like myself, who lives and breathes Scott Pilgrim. They are also amazing ways to introduce anyone interested to this classic series. With amazing posters, stickers and extra’s, now you can get even more out of this amazing series.
