Sequels to successful films are an inevitably, even to a movie that pretty much was the 2020s version of Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver. But, with over $1 billion at the box office and an Academy Award for Joaquin Phoenix, how couldn’t there be a sequel to 2019’s Joker?
Which brings us to this, the first trailer for Joker: Folie à Deux, which sees Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck teamed up in a musical thriller with Harley Quinn, played by the one and only Lady Gaga. It will be interesting to see how far director and co-writer Todd Phillips takes this new film, considering how dark and disturbing the original really was.
