The sun is finally out, at least it is here in Toronto. What better way to soundtrack the thaw than with a fresh batch of new music? In this week’s instalment of What’s Going On, we’re diving headfirst into the latest releases from the likes of Ken Carson, Whitehall, Colatura, and more. Whether you’re strutting through sunbeams or just vibing in your apartment with the blinds half-open, there’s something here to match your mood and maybe even shift it. As always, if you dig what you hear, be sure to stream and follow the artists.

Colatura – Brooklyn dream-pop duo Colatura returns with If I’m Being Honest, a gorgeous new EP due August 1st via Easy Does It Records. Marking their most introspective release yet, the EP tackles nostalgia, vulnerability, and self-reflection themes with fuzzy guitars and intimate vocals. Break out the tissues! The lead single, “I Wanna Get Better,” premiered by FLOOD (they’re cool), is an ode to lost innocence and emotional growth. Produced by Nixon Boyd and mixed by Digo Best, the EP captures late-night confessions wrapped in shoegaze textures.

Quavo & Lil Baby – Grammy-nominated rap superstar Quavo teamed up with fellow Quality Control labelmate Lil Baby for “Legends,” a triumphant new single and video out now via QC/Motown. Their first major collab of 2025, the track blends Quavo’s melodic stylings with Lil Baby’s razor-sharp bars, honouring their Atlanta roots and hyping up how much they grind. The Hidji-directed video features luxurious shots of yachts, Lambos, and all the fabulous trappings that come with being hip-hop royalty. “Legends” isn’t just a flex; it’s a victory lap for two cultural powerhouses.

Ken Carson – There’s no one doing it right now quite like Ken Carson. The buzzworthy genre-defiant artist dropped More Chaos, his long-awaited new album, via Opium/Interscope Records. First teased by streamer Kai Cenat during a live stream, the project has fueled months of fan speculation, and it is more than worth the wait. The album blends brash rap, punk, and electronic energy into something Ken simply calls “chaos.” Recorded during his 80-date world tour and finished in L.A., More Chaos features production from his core crew and a historic first-ever Opium link-up with Playboi Carti and Destroy Lonely on “Off the Meter.” With over 3.5 billion streams and a trail of viral, sold-out shows, Ken is cementing his legacy. More Chaos isn’t just an album; it’s a full-blown movement. Don’t miss out.

Saphir Levi – Los Angeles-based alt-rocker Saphir Levi is stepping into a new era by announcing her signing to NOWHERE Recordings in partnership with Pale Chord Records / Rise Records BMG. Her debut single under her full name, “Forget It,” is out now. Produced by NOWHERE2RUN (Jami Morgan & Eric Balderose of Code Orange), the track channels total ‘90s alt-rock queens like Mazzy Star and PJ Harvey with a fresh, modern 2025 spin. With equal parts warm and witchy, “Forget It” will go over well with Saphir’s fans. With over 30 million streams of her previous work to date, the world is watching to see what Saphir Levi does next.

Whitehall – There’s more great stuff coming out of Brooklyn. Indie rockers Whitehall returns with “Come Visit,” a deep new single that captures the ache of uncertainty and the longing for solid ground. “It’s an isolating feeling when everyone else looks like they’ve ‘figured it out,” the band shares, “To us, this song recognizes that feeling and instead of isolating, it invites you to “come visit.” With their signature blend of dynamic alt-rock, clever lyricism, and hook-laden melodies, the band consisting of Paddy McKiernan, Avery Greeson, Brennan Clark, and Davis Rowe deliver a powerful glimpse of what listeners can expect from their forthcoming album. Stay tuned to What’s Going On for more info on what’s next for Whitehall.
