Nothing like getting home and heading right upstairs to my own personal sweatbox to write Figure Friday! I suppose this could count as training for my upcoming trip to the southwest (more on that in a future piece) but I don’t want this to take longer than it has to. Onward to toys!
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Mirage Comics) by NECA
Fellow Figure Friday writer Josh was kind enough to snag us both the box set of these terrific terrapins last year when they were Target store exclusives in the US of A. Next to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles The Movie figures (also by NECA), these are my definitive Turtles and both sets fittingly sit next to each other on a shelf in my study. If you were reading the Mirage comics in the late ’80s/early ’90s, these guys are IT.
NECA made us wait a whole year for the single packed versions of these and if my opinion wasn’t already obvious enough they’re must-haves and they may or may not have eared the top spot on my figures of the year list last year.
The figures are largely the same as the original releases with a few added accessories that weren’t part of the initial releases. You now have the freedom to pick these up one-by-one or you can get all four at once…the choice is yours!
Also, just spit-ballin’ here, but since NECA does love a good accessory pack it would be neat to see them release alternate heads for this figures with bandanas colored with each turtles corresponding cartoon color. Just a thought…
As I sit and right this preorders have just gone live for yet another The Last Ronin figure…and this time he’s NAKED. Well, except for some leg warmers which is even kinkier if you think about it. You can match his freak and preorder now.
Transformers Studio Series Core Decepticon Frenzy (Red)
In non-Turtles news..I actually got a new figure for the first time in a while! In a day that I never thought I would come, my Transformers Studio Series Frenzy finally shipped.
There’s really not much more I can write about this figure that I didn’t already write about the Rumble figure from last year. It’s amazing the amount of articulation and poses that such a small figure can pull off. I’ve currently got it on my work desk and it is nigh-impossible to put down. Get it while the getting is good!

Unlike Star Wars, Transformers, TMNT etc I’m not aware of any three-plus hour YouTube videos that get deep into the Rainbow Brite lore so I’m a bit hazy on the specifics. Oh sure, I WATCHED Rainbow Brite, Care Bears, Jem and so on in the ’80s, but I could never publicly admit to it. Hindsight being what it is, I don’t think this admission would have made the grade school through high school years any worse for me then they already were.
At least Rainbow Brite is finally experiencing a resurgence after 40 years and you can preorder this one NOW. For yourself or for a friend…
