In this episode of Biff Bam Pop! Presents… we talk to writer, publisher, editor, and comic historian Chris Ryall about his two new books on store shelves. They couldn’t be more different. The first is a graphic novel interpretation of Francis Ford Coppola’s 2024 film, Megalopolis; the other is a look at Daredevil: Born Again, part of Bloomsbury’s new Marvel Age of Comics book line.

Here’s the Megalopolis log line: In his debut graphic novel, legendary award-winning director Francis Ford Coppola brings Megalopolis to life with an all-new, reimagined story, adapted by Coppola with Chris Ryall and award-wining artist Jacob Phillips

Megalopolis: An Original Graphic Novel is a unique 160-page graphic novel that presents an alternate version of Francis Ford Coppola’s visionary film, created and written by Francis Ford Coppola, adapted by Chris Ryall in collaboration with Coppola, and illustrated by Eisner Award–nominated cartoonist Jacob Phillips.

The City of New Rome must change, causing conflict between Cesar Catilina, a genius artist who seeks to leap into a utopian, idealistic future, and his opposition, Mayor Franklyn Cicero, who remains committed to a regressive status quo, perpetuating greed, special interests, and partisan warfare.

Torn between them is socialite Julia Cicero, the mayor’s daughter, whose love for Cesar has divided her loyalties, forcing her to discover what she truly believes humanity deserves.

This graphic novel is a unique, standalone interpretation of the larger world Coppola created; or as Coppola himself put it, Megalopolis: An Original Graphic Novel is “a sibling of the film, rather than just an echo.”

Here’s the Marvel Age of Comics – Daredevil: Born Again log line: Explore the Stories Behind the Legends. What happens when a hero loses everything? In Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli’s Daredevil: Born Again, the comic’s titular hero has his life destroyed after his most menacing enemy learns his real identity. His attempts to rebuild his life and sanity result in one of the most gripping and impactful superhero storylines of all time. Released in 1986, the storyline is an extraordinary exploration of what happens when a hero’s identity is revealed, and his personal life completely annihilated. We see Daredevil reduced to the lowest depths in the character’s history, but we also follow his painstaking path toward redemption. This entry in MARVEL AGE OF COMICS explores Daredevil: Born Again’s gorgeous and unique artwork, the lasting impact of its story and art, and how it forever changed the ways superhero characters and their secret identities have functioned. A must-have for new or longtime readers of a Marvel classic, this richly illustrated book is also the perfect gift for the comic book fan in your life.
