Happy Monday, fiends! Welcome back to your weekly dose of horror news highlights.
Let me jump right in and point out that November will see some cool shit coming to Shudder, but Blood and Flesh; The Reel Life and Ghastly Death of Al Adamson is streaming right now. I can’t say I’m a huge fan of Adamson’s films, but David Gregory crafted a hell of a documentary about the man. But even bigger news, coming November 23rd, Shudder will have the Mario Bava collection! We get A Bay of Blood (fans of Friday the 13th Part 2 fans take note; this is where some of the kills are directly lifted from), Black Sunday, Black Sabbath, Lisa and the Devil, Kill Baby Kill, The Girl Who Knew Too Much, Shock, and The Whip and the Body. Also of note, if you saw last year’s The Prodigy, you’ll see it’s best jump scare in Shock.
And speaking of Bava, his son Lamberto has made a number of great films himself, so let me recommend one I just watched; 1980’s Macabre, starring Bernice Steggers and Stanko Molnar. Set in New Orleans, its an oddly paced and dark film that just keeps getting more odd and dark. Its currently streaming on Amazon Prime.
Chris Landon’s new slasher film Freaky! hit theaters on Friday the 13th and will hit VOD in about three weeks from now. The film stars Katheryn Newton and Vince Vaughn, who plays a serial killer that switches bodies with Newton’s character. Landon was on this week’s All The Colors of Horror Podcast talking about the work the two actors put into becoming each other. The trailer looks fun as hell, but theaters are not open here so I’ll be waiting a bit.
December will see the release of the Polish WWII horror film Werewolf, which pits kids liberated from a concentration camp against a pack of vicious dogs. I mean, holy fuck, the trailer looks grim, but you’ve got to figure the actual film is going to be grim, but the trailer has intrigued me and I love animal attack horror.
Ok, so I’ve never watched any of the three seasons of Slasher, but Shudder is reviving the series for a fourth season and it will star my favorite director David Cronenberg! So I guess I should start watching Slasher.
